After a disappointing season opening loss, the Agates boys’ hockey team hit the ice ready to improve their performance.
The Agates scored three goals in their game against Moose Lake-Willow River Saturday, an improvement over their scoreless game against Proctor last week. Six goals were not enough to beat Moose Lake-Willow River, though. They scored 8 goals to beat the Agates. A high number of Agates penalties gave Moose Lake-Willow River plenty of opportunities to score.
Though the team lost their second game of the season, Agates boys’ hockey head coach Steve Wasko was happy with the way things looked on the ice. “We got better from the first game,” he said. “We’re doing some good things, we’re getting better.”
Wasko said the team is better at getting the puck across the ice, but needs to work on overall team defense.
The Agates next faced Ely in a Tuesday night game. The team again improved their scoring, with six goals in this game.
Ely defeated the Agates 11-6. The Agates faced Eveleth-Gilbert last night. Results of that game were not available at press time. The Agates next play Kittson County Central Dec. 17.
