Superior Shores has built one sweet house

The Superior Shores Resort in Two Harbors is celebrating the holidays in a big, sweet way. Peter Dingmann, executive chef of the Kamloops restaurant in the resort, along with Patty Clark, have put more than 35 hours into creating a giant six-foot by six-foot gingerbread house that's entirely edible (except for the wooden frame inside).

This larger-than-life gingerbread house has enough sugar in it to make any dentist cringe. To keep the structure together, about 100 pounds of homemade royal icing was used. To make the gingerbread, 40 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of sugar, 10 pounds of shortening, and 2.5 gallons of molasses were used. Top that off with a roof made of Pop Tarts and about 20-30 pounds of candy decorations, and the calorie count will make your head spin. To put things in perspective, the roof along has about 140,000 calories.

The gingerbread house will be on display in the Superior Shores lobby throughout the holiday season. A Caring Loving People toy drive donation box is set up near the gingerbread house so that anyone who stops by to check the house out can also make a toy donation.
