Students in the Lake Superior school district are eligible to receive more than $50,000 in scholarships from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
“There are valuable scholarships for students living on the North Shore,” David Hammer, scholarship officer at the Community Foundation, said. “But you have to apply in order to win.”
-The Jeanne Hemingway Scholarship, a $2,500 award, renewable for four years, for students from Lake, Cook, and St. Louis in the top 15 percent of their class who plan to attend the .
-The Charlotte Ulland Scholarship for Girls, a renewable, $1,000 per year award, for two female graduates of a Lake or Cook County high school to attend a public college in Minnesota.
-The Superior Shores Resort Scholarship, an $800 award available to graduates of Lake County high schools to pursue a career in hospitality such as becoming a chef, a guide, an outfitter, an entertainer, a naturalist, or a hotel/resort manager.
-The Minnesota Power Community Involvement Scholarship, a $2,500 award given to 20 students in the Minnesota Power service area (including all of Lake and Cook Counties) in recognition of exemplary volunteerism and community contributions.
The Community Foundation encourages all interested students to submit an application by the Jan. 15 deadline. The scholarship application and a list of available to high school students are available at www.dsacommunityfoundation.com.
