Little Giants
The Agates had a strong finish at the Little Giants Invitational at Mesabi East Nov. 5. This is a meet for seventh through ninth grade swimmers, and for some of them is the final meet of the season.
Last year, the team finished fifth at the event, but was able to take a third place finish with a score of 370 this time around. “All the girls have improved so much throughout the season and we also saw a huge improvement from last year,” coach Heather Oberg said. “I can’t believe some of the time drops we saw this weekend, it was truly outstanding. I am so proud to see how much this group of girls has improved from last year, it is truly remarkable. To see this amount of improvement makes it even more exciting to see what they will do next year.”
Some fourth through sixth grade athletes were able to participate in the meet, including Katie Archer, Kendall Beck, Naomi Eliason, Katarina Hanson, Roell Holman, Emily Olson, Maggie Swardstrom, Hannah Zapolski, Audrey Hanson, and Emma Coolidge. “There were many great time drops and some outstanding finishes at the meet. The girls work really hard for this final meet and did an excellent job,” Oberg said.
Grand Rapids took first place at the event with a score of 600. Other teams included International Falls with a score of 413, Proctor-Hermantown with a score of 294, Virginia with a score of 252, Mesabi East with a score of 245, Eveleth Gilbert with a score of 219, Chisholm with a score of 172, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton with a score of 168, and North Range-Ely with a score of 143.
