The Lake County Lake County Emergency Management department is hosting three public meetings next week to talk about its “Hazard Mitigation Plan,” which director BJ Kohlstedt says is to prepare for “emergencies and disasters of all kinds.”

“The Pagami Creek fire has reminded us all of the need to plan,” she said.

The plan is up for review this year as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and public input is part of that process.

The public meetings take place across the county:

l 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Two Harbors fire hall.

l 6-8 pm Wednesday at Fall Lake Town Hall.

l 6-8 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Finland community center.

The plan is on the Lake County web site at www.co.lake.mn.us under the Emergency Management tab.

Kohlstedt said residents will be asked about the county’s community profile; potential hazards, risks and vulnerabilities; and mitigation goals and strategies (“If you don’t have time to look at anything else, please scan these pages, 67-77,” Kohlstedt said).

Residents are also asked to provide any advice or expertise they may have at the meetings.

Comments will also be taken by email or phone at (218) 226-4444 and bj.kohlstedt@co.lake.mn.us.
