Finland News: Aug. 19

John and Betty Pounds of Boerno, Texas, and Jean Cook of Holland, Mich., were spending some time here visiting their sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Rich Lindberg, and her mother, Lila Hangartner.

Betty and John left Sunday and were wishing they could take the cool weather of the North Shore back to Texas.

Ruth Himes and Judy Martell held an open house Thursday. This was a nice get-together to be able to visit with many friends and relatives while Ruth’s son, Eugene, was here from Japan. He left Sunday to attend training classes in Las Vegas before returning to Japan.

Eugene Himes and Fred Edgar attended their 50th class reunion. This was Eugene’s first reunion. It was a great time to see and visit with so many classmates.

Ric and Diane Lindberg motored to Waconia Saturday to attend a surprise 30th birthday party for their son-in-law, Josh Arnold.

Ruth Himes, Linda Nikolai, and Verna Sinderman attended a bridal shower for Karen Blomberg Saturday. The party was at the home Karen and Michael Sinderman recently purchased.

Andrew Carlson, a former pastor at Zion Lutheran Church, is spending some time in the area visiting with friends and doing some camping.

Betty Lillback got another surprise recently. Her daughter, Terri Lillback, of Kansas surprised the family when she arrived Aug. 10. She will be here until Tuesday.

Get well wishes go out to Dick Beck, who entered St. Luke’s hospital Saturday.

Get well wishes also go out to Dick Reinke, who is at Essentia/St. Mary’s hospital. Dick is the site host at the Finland Heritage Center.

The weather turned out great for the annual Tori and Music Fest Saturday at the heritage site. There were many vendors selling and demonstrating their crafts and talents and many wonderful foods were served.

The lucky winners of the Big Raffle were Jack Pichotta ($500), Bobby Boman ($400), and Stacy Dubbin ($300). Winners of the $100 prizes were Eleanro Waha, Verna Sinderman, Joe Youngberg, Annette Olson, and Jay Vanderzwaag. Congratulations.

Winners of the fire extinguishers given away by Finland Fire and Rescue were Ruby Steele, Heather Lehtinen, and David LaRocque.
