He was born in Duluth to Henry and Edna Larson, graduated from Duluth Central High School, later serving in the Air Force. He was employed by Reserve Mining and Minnesota Power as a chief engineer. His family lived in Silver Bay, Two Harbors, and later he retired in Duluth.
He is survived by a daughter, Robin (Curt) Lorang of Inver Grove Heights; and three sons, Brian (Lana) of Bloomington, Eric (Pam) of Bloomington, and John (Nicolle) of St. Paul. He was a proud grandfather to his six beloved grandchildren, Adam (Stefany) Lorang, Aaron Lorang, Chris Larson, Marissa Larson, Gretchen North, and Carolina Larson. He is also survived by his longtime friend and dear companion Esther Kirsch.
Robert led a caring, loving, nurturing, and thoughtful life. He was a loving friend, spouse, father, brother and grandfather whose children and grandchildren loved him immensely, always thinking and speaking very highly of him.
He was self-taught, read voluminously, loved laughing, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin. His wit, wisdom, common-sense world view and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; sisters, Betty and Phyllis; brother, Warren; and an infant son.
Robert’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth Clinic and Hospice Unit for their compassionate care during his last days.
