Things were hot in Beaver Bay and Silver Bay during Bay Days events last weekend. Hot as in plenty of events for crowds to gather, including the Saturday parade and the mud run.

Hundreds turned out to the annual Bay Days mud run Saturday to watch as ATV and dirt bike drivers competed to get through the sloppy mud bog with the best time. Drivers young and old had multiple chances to drive through the track in hopes of getting the best time.

As more and more drivers splashed into the pit, it seemed others were picking up on tips and tricks to make it through the mud faster and faster. Those with the most success drove their ATVs while standing on top and bouncing the machine up and down so that it wouldn’t get stuck on the muddy bottom. Driving in a zig-zag pattern helped others. One brave driver even drove his ATV backwards through the mud bog without getting stuck.
