The area around the Depot in downtown Two Harbors will be looking more like the Wild West during Heritage Days weekend.
Back by popular demand, the Minnesota Old West Society will be camping in the grass around the Depot through Sunday. The historical reenactment group will use western-style tents and camping supplies to show festival goers what life may have been like in the late 1800s. The re-enactors will also be doing a few shootouts during the weekend.
Two Harbors is anything but western, but Heritage Days chairperson Cheryl Sundstrom hopes it will remind residents of the city’s early history. “It brings you back to the Whiskey Row days and the way people lived when they first established Two Harbors,” she said.
Sundstrom hopes people learn a little bit about history while having fun.
The group has participated in Heritage Days in past years but haven’t been to Two Harbors since 2009. Sundstrom said she’s overheard many in the community talk about how excited they are to have the historical reenactment society back.
