Michael Suomi, 57, of Duluth, formally of Two Harbors, died June 28, 2011, at St. Mary’s-Essentia Hospital with his family by his side.
Mike was born May 11, 1954, to Albert and Claudia Suomi in Two Harbors, where he grew up and attended school.
After graduating from Two Harbors High School, Mike married Jill Gage May 10, 1975. He attended carpentry school and joined the Carpenters Union, Local 361. He worked as a carpenter for 38 years and enjoying the years he worked for Ray Riihiluoma Inc. Mike retired in 2010.
He enjoyed camping, traveling, watching sports, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jenna Blu Suomi; maternal grandparents, Carl and Margaret Johnson; paternal grandparents, Alex and Taimie Suomi; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, June and Herbert Olson.
Mike is survived by his parents, Albert and Claudia Suomi; wife, Jill; sons, Cody (Amy) Suomi of Two Harbors and Casey (Chris) Suomi of Duluth; grandchildren, Shawna, Isaiha, Janie, Ryan, Tristin, Lucie, and Sage; sister, Sherry (Scott) Reitan; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 1 p.m. Monday before a 2 p.m. memorial service at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. A celebration of Mike’s life will follow at the family residence, 4528 Pitt Street, Duluth.
