Pierre the Voyageur made whole againA famous Two Harbors landmark had it's head reinstalled Tuesday at a new location along Highway 61.
Warren Piff and Erik Totawaa of Duluth’s Lipe Brothers Construction and worked to place Pierre the Voyageur’s head back on his body Tuesday near the Earthwood Inn just outside of Two Harbors. The hope is to have the head moving by the Fourth of July.
Eventually, Pierre’s eyes will light up, and he’ll be standing with a paddle and canoe built by Nancy Kuyper. A rock formation will cover the lower half of Pierre’s legs, meaning his damaged feet won’t be replaced. He will stand much higher than in the past 50 years as he has been a picture favorite for visitors to the North Shore.
The statue was moved over the winter to the Earthwood to make room in the lot next to the Voyageur Motel for an auto parts store.
