The Mariners have been awarded a number of post-season honors in softball and baseball.

In baseball, Ryan DeShaw was named to the Polar League All-Conference team and Warren Carter received an honorable mention.

In softball, Taylor Guzzo was named to the second team of the coach’s association Class A All-State team. Marina Carter, Katie Smedstad and Guzzo were named to the All-Section 7A team. Jessalyn Rowlee and Nikki Babbitt were both members of the All-State academic team which required a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

The Mariners team received a bronze award for a combined team GPA of 3.25 to 3.49.

Alex Murray, the eighth-grader from Cook County who was the starting goaltender for the Mariners last season, was one of two goalies named to the 21-person Select 15 team from Minnesota headed to the national festival.

Things don’t look very good for a revival of the Rocky Taconite softball tournament. As of June 16, only one team had officially signed up for the event scheduled for July 9-10.

You still have until July 1 to sign up for the annual Blue Line Club summer hockey camp at Rukavina Arena. The camp will be held July 23-31. Call the arena to sign up or for more information.
