Not only is the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra coming to Two Harbors in July, it is also hosting some interactive workshops in town.
In buildup to one of the highlights of this year’s July 7-10 Heritage Days, the orchestra will welcome those wanting to know more about music at a 6:30 p.m. workshop June 28 at the Two Harbors Public Library. More workshops will be presented prior to the July 9 concert at Thomas Owens Park.
The first workshop features trombone player Larry Zimmerman, who plans to take his audience on a time-traveling trip into the past of brass instruments. He will show a shofar, conch, didgeridoo, and other ancient instruments while exploring the history of brass from the earliest ancestors to the modern trombone. Zimmerman will also dig into his collection of mutes, which give the trombone a variety of sounds and personalities.
The classical music of the orchestra will add to a “Music, Music, Music” theme of Heritage Days. On July 7, the first of back-to-back “homecoming” concerts will begin at the school in Silver Bay featuring Lake County natives and nationally-known singers Nathan Herfindahl of Silver Bay and Andrew Gangestad of Two Harbors.
The second concert is July 8 in Two Harbors.
Tickets are going fast and can be had through the Lake Superior Community Theatre at www.lsct.us or by calling 353-7509.
