Chris A. Johnson, 54, of Lax Lake, died Wednesday with his family by his side, Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 4, 1957, to Ronald D. and Nancy (Walstad) Johnson in Duluth. Chris grew up in Silver Bay and graduated from William Kelley High School in 1975.
He worked as a welder for North Shore Mining for nearly 22 years. He was a member of the Silver Bay Gun Club and enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and summers at Isle Royale.
Chris was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald D. Johnson, in 2003.
Chris is survived by his wife, Debra, of Lax Lake; daughter, Nikki of Two Harbors; son, Ryan (Ashley) of Fargo; step-children, Danielle (Pete) Anderson, of Casper, Wyo., Jade Stankey of Silver Bay, and Tylor Stankey of Finland; mother, Nancy (Dale) Johnson of Two Harbors; brother, Steven (Deb) of Gillette, Wyo.; sisters, Susan (Scott) Wald of Cable, Wis., and Karin Sandmann of Hayward; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There was a memorial service Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Finland.
