Sports Roundup: Spring sports teams begin competition

The Two Harbors track team continued its success from last season with a strong performance at the Polar League Indoor Meet Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Two Harbors track team continued its success from last season with a strong performance at the Polar League Indoor Meet Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

On the boys team, the 4-by-800 relay team (Parker Kausch, Micaiah Schubert, Josh Ensign, and Eli Hebl) finished first while the 4x200 team (Drew Christensen, Kevin Thewis, Lee Myrdal, and Alex Horoshak) finished second.

Horoshak was first in the long jump and Kevin Thewis was No. 1 in the 55-meter hurdles. Micky Smith placed second in the shot put as Kausch was second in the 400-meter dash.

On the girls team, Nina Bukowski was first in the triple jump while Stephanie McGregor finished in the same position in the shot put. Kaley Peterson was second in the shot put while Lacey Myrdal placed second in the 800-meter run. The 4x200 relay (Myrdal, Bukowski, Katelyn Adams, and Ivie Brooks) also placed second.

The team’s next meet is at 9 a.m. April 16 at Cannon Falls.

Silver Bay track

The Silver Bay track team opened up its season Saturday at the Polar League Indoor Meet at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

On the boys team, Kyle Blood won the 400-meter dash. Hank Bemlott came in third in the 55-meter hurdles.

On the girls team Sammy Anderson had a strong performance with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash and a third in the 200-meter dash. Abby Michels came in fifth in the 400-meter dash while placing sixth in the long jump.

The team’s next meet will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at McGregor.

Two Harbors baseball

The Two Harbors baseball team’s first game of the season scheduled for this past Tuesday at Hayward was rescheduled for 10 a.m. May 14 at Hayward. The team’s next game will be at home at 4 p.m. Monday against Eveleth-Gilbert.

Silver Bay baseball

The Silver Bay baseball team’s opening game against Floodwood Tuesday was cancelled. A makeup date has not been set yet. The Mariners will be at Carlton at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two Harbors girls basketball

Awards were handed out to girls basketball players recently. Katelyn Adams, Jenny Nelson, Kalina Pavlisich, and Marissa Engelson all made the All-State Academic Team.
