The Lake Bank, Two Harbors Federal Credit Union, and Wells Fargo helped count the coins. The top fund-raising class was the Community Education pre-school classes, which donated more than $600.
“I am so proud of all of our students,” said Jody Zastera, the school collection coordinator. “One student or one penny alone doesn’t accomplish much, but when we all team together, anything is possible.”
Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and adults younger than age 20. An estimated 912,938 Americans are living with blood cancer and, every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed. Since 1992, $5.3 million has been raised by thousands of students.
“Our students and staff did a great job of giving selflessly to help children and others battling blood cancer,” Zastera said.
