Deepest sympathy goes out to all the family and friends of Glen Carlson. Glen died Wednesday, Feb. 2 from injuries sustained in a car accident Jan. 13 on Highway 61. Glen will be very missed in our communities where he was very active and a friend to everyone.

Alvin Jouppi, Bob and Gary Nikolai, Jim Sheehan of Cotton, Dick Garrett of Wyoming, and Doug McKee of Two Harbors enjoyed four days at the Jouppi/LaBounty cabin on Titmarsh Lake in Canada. They reported a lot of slush on the lakes and fishing “not to good.”

There will be a community breakfast fund-raiser 7 a.m. to noon Saturday for the new Clair Nelson Intermodal Finland Community Center. Cost is $4 with no cost for those under age 12. It’s a great chance to come out and see the new building.

The eighth annual Arrowhead Vintage Snowmobile Rendezvous is Feb. 19. The family event is sponsored by the Finland Snowmobile/ATV Club and local businesses. At 10 a.m. Saturday there will be a snowmobile-guided ride at Wildhurst Lodge, which will take you on the Moose Walk and Moose Run loop. There will be awards, a vintage race, door prizes, and a silent auction. There will also be food and beverages starting at noon. For more information, call 353-7337.

The 49th annual Fishing Contest, sponsored by the VFW Post 6204, goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 19 on Lax Lake. Raffle tickets are on sale and proceeds will go to local civic projects.
