Last week I looked at the girls hockey section favorites. This week I’ll look at the boys sections.

Last week I looked at the girls hockey section favorites. This week I’ll look at the boys sections.

Section 1A has Rochester Lourdes and 2A has Blake or Breck. Section 3A has Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and New Ulm while 4A belongs to St. Thomas Academy.

In 5A, Hermantown should once again prevail and in 6A it should go to Little Falls.

Section 7A has three teams capable of winning it in Virginia, Hibbing, and Duluth Marshall with Duluth Central as a dark horse.

Section 8A should go to East Grand Forks with Thief River Falls and Warroad not too far behind.

Section 1AA will come down to Lakeville North and Lakeville South.

In 2AA it should be Edina over Burnsville and 3AA will come down to Eagan and Apple Valley.

Section 4AA comes down to Hill-Murray, Roseville, Stillwater and White Bear Lake. Hill-Murray should prevail.

Section 5AA has Blaine, Centennial, and Maple Grove. I like Blaine.

Section 6AA has Wayzata, Eden Prairie, Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Minnetonka. I’ll take Eden Prairie to come out of some fantastic semis.

Duluth East should prevail in 7AA with Grand Rapids and Cloquet the top challengers.

In 8AA you have Bemidji, Roseau, Brainerd, and Moorhead. I’ll take Moorhead right now.

Tournament

The top goal scorers of the Silver Bay hockey tournament were J.J. Cruikshank of Cooper and Alex Koschak of Ely with six each.

Nick Mathews of Ely had the most assists with 10. The top point getters with 10 were Josh Cisar of Moose Lake/Willow River, Billy Foy of Ely, and Mathews. Here’s my All-Tournament Team. At defense you have Cisar and Nolan Bloyer of Legacy Christian. The forwards are Eric Madison of the St. Paul Saints and Cruikshank. The goaltender is eighth grader Alex Murray of Silver Bay who finished with 99 saves in three games and a save percentage of 91.6. My MVP of the tournament is Cisar.

Upcoming games

Upcoming hockey games have the girls hosting Lake of the Woods tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Tuesday they host the Proctor/Hermantown/Marshall Mirage. The boys are at Coleraine tomorrow to play Greenway.

In basketball the girls host Ely tonight and are at Cook County Tuesday. The boys also host Ely tonight and are at Cook County Tuesday.

The Silver Bay/Cook County Nordic ski team will compete at Giants Ridge at 10 a.m. Saturday.

College hockey

Former Mariner Libby Guzzo, senior captain of the St. Scholastica Saints women’s hockey team, has four points on the season with two goals and 27 shots on goal. She has also won 99 face-offs this season. The Saints are 4-7-1 overall in the team’s first season.

Guzzo played for the UMD Bulldogs the past three seasons.
