100 years ago, 1910
United States Steel corporation shows support to secure appropriation from the government to erect a federal building in Two Harbors to house a post office, a customs office, and to include in the building a reading room and library for the lake sailors while in port. The Pittsburg Steamship company has already signified a willingness to help us secure an appropriation and the matter will again be brought to the attention of the officials of that company.

Per quart, 8 cents. Per gallon 30 cents, if you bring the pail.

“Finnegan’s Hill” is the most popular place in the city for the kiddies these days and evenings.
75 years ago, 1935
As has been custom for several years, the State Theatre managers will again play Santa Claus to the community on Saturday when it will hold an open house. A double feature will include “Dude Ranger” with George O’Brien, “It’s a Gift” with W. C. Fields, and a Betty Boop cartoon. A cordial invitation to the entire community is herewith extended by Managers Wright and Christensen.
Art show
No one can tell what they can do until they try and the effort of Robert Jones, who decorated the window at the Sonju Motor Co. showroom, received much favorable comment during the week. It was Robert’s first artistic effort and the display is most credible.
50 years ago, 1960
U.S. Forest Service personnel of the Two Harbors ranger district are now occupying the new headquarters on 16th Avenue and State Road 2. Ranger Joe App and Assistant Eino Koski are using the new office building with tentative plans for an open house in the spring. Equipment for firefighting and for fire caches have been moved into the new warehouse.

Lake County approved sale of $1.1 million worth of tax increment bonds for the development of a motel and convention center at Flood Bay. The money will be held by the county in interest-bearing accounts until the facility is completed.
