The Minnesota State Patrol has identified one of the two people killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Minnesota Highway 61 north of Two Harbors.

The Patrol reported this morning that Aaron Nelson, 22, of Wrenshall, died when the Chevy S10 pickup he was driving northbound on Highway 61 lost control on the Gooseberry River bridge and went into the southbound lane, where it was broadsided on the passenger side by a southbound Jeep Liberty.

A passenger in the pickup also died, the Patrol reported, but their identity has not yet been released.

Both vehicles burned after the crash, State Patrol Sgt. Mark Baker said. In addition to the two people killed, the driver of the Jeep, Molly Gadsby, 23, of Silver Bay, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened about 6 a.m. Roads in the area were slippery from a mixture of rain and snow, and the bridge deck was ice-covered. Traffic was detoured around the accident scene for several hours Tuesday.
