I recently visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. In the late spring of 1968, a few blocks south of the old Two Harbors High School, I remember walking by a woman who was crying as she talked with a friend. I learned that Michael Smoger had died in Vietnam.

I did not know Michael personally, but I know others who served then and serve now in our military forces. I have walked by the memorial previously. This time I looked for Michael Smoger’s name.
