Letter to the editor: Experience matters
Politics are about popularity. Elections should be about leadership. Politicians avoid tough questions. Leaders stand up in tough situations. Lake County will vote for a new county attorney Tuesday. Who is elected will say a lot about this community.

Lake County will vote for a new county attorney Tuesday. Who is elected will say a lot about this community.
Are we going to elect someone because we know their family, because we went to school with them, because we played softball with them, or because they are the most qualified to represent Lake County?
Laura Auron is the most qualified to be county attorney. For the past 20 years she has been working in county and city attorney offices. When we hired her five years ago, the two county attorneys she worked for congratulated me on getting her for our office and said she was the best attorney they had.
Laura takes the tough cases and handles them efficiently and effectively. She is even part of a small team created by the Minnesota County Attorneys Association that teaches trial skills to prosecutors across the state.
Laura knows the office and what is important. The focus is not on the $340,000 budget that is mostly fixed costs like salaries and benefits. The county attorney must focus on prosecuting crime and protecting the county.
Laura Auron is smart, prepared, and determined. She knows how to run the county attorney office because of her experience.
Take your vote seriously. We are voting for county attorney, not homecoming king.
