Install proper road reflectors
Property owners are advised to use only blue or white reflectors when marking their driveway entrances, the Minnesota Department of Transportation warned this week.
Property owners are advised to use only blue or white reflectors when marking their driveway entrances, the Minnesota Department of Transportation warned this week. According to Bob Wryk, MnDOT Highway Operations Superintendent for northeastern Minnesota, people who are considering installing driveway markers should use these safety guidelines:
- Reflectors should be only blue or white in color. Drivers can easily confuse red or yellow reflectors with motor vehicle tail lights or vehicle warning lights.
- Reflectors should be at least 12 feet away from the shoulder of the road to reduce the chances of being covered by snow when the road is plowed.
- Reflectors should not be placed on mailboxes or permanent posts and should be no more than five feet from the ground.
