Eldon Peter Platcek, 71, of Two Harbors, formerly of Tracy, died Oct. 1, 2010, at Sunrise Home.
He was born March 9, 1939, in Trimont to Arnie and Amelia (Lenertz) Platcek.
Eldon moved to Tracy where he received his high school diploma in 1957.
He moved to Croftville, north of Grand Marais on Highway 61, where his family owned a resort. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and worked for the U.S. Forestry Service.
He and his family moved to Fort Collins where he attended Colorado State University-Greeley and received a teaching degree.
He married to Marlene Dawn Pagel of Amiret Oct. 20, 1973.
He worked at the 7-Up Bottling Company in Tracy until its closing in 1985.
He and his family moved to Fort Collins, staying there until 1988, when he again returned to Tracy and worked for Greenwood Nursery.
In 1998 he moved his family to Two Harbors, where he worked for the Lake County Historical Society.
Some of his passionate hobbies included the continued search for artifacts, bottle collecting, history of the great fur trade, coin collecting, and agate hunting. He loved photographing, sketching and recording artifacts and bottles, keeping very detailed notes about each one.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Marlene of 36 years; son Tony (Laura) Platcek of Two Harbors; daughters Elizabeth (Scott) Lichtsinn of Tyler; Sara (Darin) Goettig of Tracy; Augusta (Will) Jerek of Williston, N.D.; and son Christopher Platcek of Two Harbors; 10 grandchildren, Samantha Zahnow, Austin Goettig, Coltyn Goettig, Andrew Lichtsinn, Riley Lichtsinn, Zach Jerek, Jamie Platcek, Victoria Platcek, Ethan Lichtsinn, and Lilly Jerek.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place in Tracy.
