John BeckJohn Milton Beck, 75, of Two Harbors, passed away Sept. 6, 2010, in Yuma, Ariz., after a long illness. His family and friends were at his side. John was born March 29, 1935, in Brimson to Verner and Ina Beck.
John Milton Beck, 75, of Two Harbors, passed away Sept. 6, 2010, in Yuma, Ariz., after a long illness. His family and friends were at his side.
John was born March 29, 1935, in Brimson to Verner and Ina Beck.
He attended school in Two Harbors and started working for the D.M. & I.R. Railroad and various gas stations in his teens to help support the family after his father passed away.
He became a truck driver and mechanic for John Grew Trucking and moved on to be a master mechanic at Duluth Ready Mix, where he worked for 27 years.
He then went to work for the Lake County Highway Department as a master mechanic, where he worked until his retirement in 1997.
During his retirement, John drove truck part-time for Halvor Lines, making many trips between Superior and Thunder Bay, which he really enjoyed.
John also enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling the country in his diesel truck and fifth-wheel with his beloved wife, Carla.
John was active in numerous organizations including the Clifton Fire Department, Voyagers Snowmobile Club, Inter- national Union of Operating Engineers, and Governor and life time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin; and sister, Joyce.
He is survived by his sister, Vivian (Vern) Bolen; his wife of 55 years, Carla; his son Ron (Cheryl) of Omaha; daughter, Kim Turnquist of Two Harbors; and seven grandchildren: Chase, Drew and Zack Turnquist; Amber (Matt) Johnson; Lance, Taylor and Garrett Beck; and two great-grandchildren, Elias Turnquist and Jade Johnson; sister-in-law, Sandi (Melvin) Beck; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Dr. Knofel (Buddy) Staton.
Services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.
