Silver Bay ran into a very good football team on the road and fell 53-6 to Nevis last week.
Tonight they travel to Mountain Iron to take on the Rangers, who opened the season with a 48-8 win over Tower-Soudan and a 34-8 win over AlBrook-Cotton. The Rangers are led offensively by quarterback Ryan Buria, who has rushed for 234 yards and five touchdowns. He is 7-of-12 thru the air for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Goodrie has added another three TDs on the ground. Leading the team on defense are Deven Rowe, Buria and Jake Stevens.
The first state football rankings of the season had the top-ranked teams as Eden Prairie in 5A, Totino-Grace in 4A, Glencoe-Silver Lake in 3A, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in 2A, Minneota in A, and Stephen-Argyle in nine-man. Local teams that were ranked are Moose Lake at No. 4 in AA, Barnum at eight in A and McGregor at seven and Cherry at nine in nine-man.
Hockey
The East Range Knights girl’s high school hockey team has suspended its season due to a lack of players for the time being and plan to pair with Silver Bay for the winter season. The Mariners should gain six to nine players. The Mariners have added a second game with Duluth to fill out the schedule.
