Letter to the editor: Rosati cares about area

For the past 40 some years, I have served you as mayor, council member, and state legislator. I have never been more proud than when I made the decision to talk Mary Henjum Rosati into running for city council 12 years ago and to see how she has done during her tenure in office.

For the past 40 some years, I have served you as mayor, council member, and state legislator. I have never been more proud than when I made the decision to talk Mary Henjum Rosati into running for city council 12 years ago and to see how she has done during her tenure in office.

She has countless achievements, but none greater than becoming the first woman in the history of Two Harbors to serve as chairwoman of public works. She immediately had money budgeted for street improvement every year, completing Eighth Street, Waterfront Drive, 16th and 18th, to name a few, and worked toward alley upkeep.

She personally lobbied to get money back from the federal government to update the sewage plant funds which were almost lost until she took over and asked to have them returned.

For the past 20-some years, she has chaired the Heritage Days celebration which brings thousands of people to the area for days. She was instrumental in the onset of the inline marathon and was the official starter for three years, which again brings business into Two Harbors.

The beautification of the town is due to her determination and hard work making due with little or no help from the outside while saving the city money by watching the budget and working with discarded items.

As you look about the city, you will see many buildings that have had a facelift – the community center, the band shell. The banners along the highway and Waterfront Drive have been an ongoing project of hers.

She has also donated countless hours to the kids of the community and has spent the last 12 years as the director of The Place.

I could ramble on for hours upon hours praising her for how she has handled city business and her own life, putting citizens of Lake County and Two Harbors ahead of her own time and needs. Her saying, “Where is the money coming from,” is classic, and she means it.

You cannot find anyone without a personal agenda like Mary – sincere, honest, dedicated, and experienced.

I urge all voters in Lake County District 4 to cast a vote for Mary Henjum Rosati for commissioner.
