I am running for the office of Lake County Attorney because, after years of serving as Assistant County Attorney, I know and understand the duties and responsibilities of this position.
A significant part of the workload is the prosecution of criminal offenses committed by juveniles and adults. The work includes quick decisions about warrants and arrests, demanding the ability to draft and file criminal complaints within hours of arrest of an individual.
It requires the knowledge and know-how of taking a case to trial while recognizing that the county attorney must seek justice.
I have prosecuted nearly a thousand criminal and traffic cases. I have drafted hundreds of criminal complaints and taken almost as many matters to trial. I have taught criminal law and procedure to law enforcement students, and currently teach other prosecutors trial skills through the Minnesota County Attorney’s Association.
I am running because I have the dedication and desire to continue working with families in crisis. Child protection cases are difficult and emotionally draining. It is a specialized area of law which I am very familiar with, and I care deeply about these challenging cases.
Commitment law is another area of law unique to the county attorney’s office. I know how important it is to make sure that our county’s residents, who are in crisis, are treated fairly and that their legal rights are protected.
I am running because the people of Lake County deserve a county attorney who understands the law and knows the county departments. As a resident of Two Harbors, I have established a good working relationship with local law enforcement, social services and the county board. I have also found a deep appreciation for the willingness of Lake County residents to make a difference in our community. I am eager to continue to work with others to provide for the best interests and safety of Lake County.
I am running because I value and appreciate the varied work of the county attorney’s office. I look forward to continuing my work with the schools to reduce truancy and alcohol use by our youth. I am also working with the county’s planning and zoning and health departments to coordinate several different land use ordinances. Every day presents new challenges which require hard work and perseverance, and I have established a reputation for both.
I am running because the office of the Lake County Attorney requires commitment to the people of Lake County. That commitment may be demonstrated by experience gained from working in the county attorney’s office, by experience in working with law enforcement and county agencies and by experience in dealing with the day-to-day issues that we as a community encounter.
I am running because I have been working for you as your Assistant Lake County Attorney for the past five years. I gained that experience by working as a prosecutor in other Minnesota counties for 13 years before moving to Lake County. And I gained that experience throughout the 26 years I have been licensed to practice law in Minnesota. This is why I am running.
