St. Francis has big finish to beat Duluth East in football

St. Francis outscored Duluth East 30-7 in the fourth quarter to beat the Greyhounds 36-21 in a high school football game Thursday night at St. Francis.

St. Francis outscored Duluth East 30-7 in the fourth quarter to beat the Greyhounds 36-21 in a high school football game Thursday night at St. Francis.

East junior quarterback Alex Toscano was 13-for-25 passing for 153 yards and a touchdown to Shaq Coleman. He also rushed 16 times for 87 yards and another score.

Brian Lansing ran 10 times for 47 yards and scored on a 6-yard run to give East (0-2) a 14-6 lead in the third quarter. Brolle Kane added five receptions for 56 yards.

Josh Cheney passed for 114 yards and threw touchdown passes to Jake Lindberg and Josh Mantel to lead the Mustangs to the nonconference season-opening win.

Mantel also had a 12-yard rushing touchdown as Mora rushed for 210 yards and totaled 324.

Cloquet quarterback Kellin Lamirande gained 96 yards on 13 carries.

Senior running back Garrett Larson rushed for 240 yards on 23 carries, scored four rushing TDs and caught another to lead the Giants to a season-opening nonconference victory in Aurora.

Larson opened the scoring with a 63-yard scoring toss from Jeff Loftus and closed the scoring on a 57-yard run.

The game was delayed for 45 minutes between the third and fourth quarters when an osprey nest atop one of the light poles caught fire.
