Duluth radio station Mix 108 will be doing a live broadcast 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Lake County Fair. The fair opened Thursday at the grounds off Highway 2 northest of downtown Two Harbors.

“I don’t think the fair has ever done something like this before,” fair organizer Ashley Swensen said of the radio broadcasts. The station has been giving away free ride passes for the fair’s carnival this week. “It’s a new way for us to advertise,” Swensen said.

Another new attraction is Great Lakes Timber Show, which will be doing log rolling and tree topping shows at the fair. Other events Swensen said are usually popular are the carnival rides, the blind lawnmower race, the annual pie contest and auction, and the livestock barns. There will be live entertainment each night, with several bands playing.

Joanne Swensen, another fair organizer, wanted to encourage everyone to come out and support 4-H members by viewing their projects. “They’ve been working hard all year long,” she said.
