Ten days from today the high school sports action kicks into gear for another season as the fall sports can begin practice Aug. 16.
Racing
Deven VanHouse of Silver Bay continues to remain high up in the points standings of the Midwest Modified series at the local race tracks. He is third at Superior and fourth at Proctor.
Legion ball
Eden Prairie defeated Eagan 28-5 to win the state Division I American Legion baseball tournament. Eden Prairie advances to the Central Plains Regional at Blue Springs, Mo., and Eagan to the Great Lakes Regional at Matoon, Ill. The eight regional winners advance to the American Legion World Series. Ely finished in sixth at the Division II state tournament with a 4-2 loss to Holdingford. LaCrescent defeated Jordan 6-5 for the title and advanced to the Central Plains tournament in Le Sueur and Henderson.
