Anatoly Liberman, author of “Word Origins ... ..and How We Know Them: Etymology for Everyone,” will be at the Two Harbors Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Anatoly Liberman, author of “Word Origins ... ..and How We Know Them: Etymology for Everyone,” will be at the Two Harbors Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Liberman is a professor at the University of Minnesota and has appeared as a guest lecturer at major universities in North America and Europe. He is a frequent guest on Minnesota Public Radio. His main areas of expertise include general and historical linguistics, history of science, medieval literature, folklore, poetic translation, literary criticism, English as a second language, and creative writing.

The event is free and attendees are invited to bring word origin questions.

Reading rewards

The end of the summer is fast approaching, and so is the end of this year’s summer reading program at the Two Harbors Public Library. This year’s wrap-up party will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 12 at the library.

The party will begin with Zoomobile from the Lake Superior Zoo followed by snacks and a drawing for prizes.

The four grand prizes this year are: a Sand and Water Transportation Station, Rainbow Sphere, Deluxe Track Magic Suitcase with DVD, and Lego Pirates Island. Contact the library at 834-3148 for questions.
