Throwback weekend: A new century begins for lighthouse
Families of past keepers mingled with excited Split Rock Lighthouse fans Saturday in anticipation of a grand celebration of it’s official 100th birthday.

A couple on a sailboat await fireworks at the Split Rock Lighthouse site Saturday evening as it celebrated 100 years since first lighting the way for Lake Superior ships. Families of past keepers mingled with excited Split Rock Lighthouse fans Saturday in anticipation of a grand celebration of it’s official 100th birthday.
There was a special lantern passing ceremony, a lighting of the beacon, and fireworks to top it all off. Hundreds of photographers lined the shore along the bay south of the lighthouse to capture the rare moments.
Boats dotted the area, with several tying up together in the middle of the bay for a twilight party.
