I am so excited to say the Miss North Shore Pageant plans are going fantastically and full speed ahead. My granddaughter, Brooke McMillen, my sister, Pamela Heinzen, and myself went to the Miss Minnesota Pageant a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing.
Besides getting to watch the beautiful and confident girls in their gowns we watched talent that left us speechless. The show was also about the community service that the reigning Miss Minnesota had accomplished while wearing the crown, she had helped the Gillette Children’s hospital immensely.
Watching this pageant made me all the more dedicated to make our local pageant a success. It’s part of the Two Harbors Winter Frolic and will take place Jan. 8.
I am finding as many experts I can to help the winner of the Miss North Shore Pageant. We want her to go to the Miss Minnesota Pageant, held in June of the same year, prepared to win and go on to the Miss America pageant the following January.
The Miss North Shore Pageant winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. As sponsorships come in, that number could increase. We will have other scholarships: $300 for the runner-up, $100 for community service, and any others that local businesses want to create. All the contestants will receive free rooms at the Country Inn of Two Harbors along with lunch on Friday and Saturday.
We will provide limo service back and forth to the high school auditorium for rehearsals and interviews, that way we won’t have to worry about the weather quite so much.
We need your help finding that special girl to represent the area. She needs to live, work, or go to school on our own North Shore. If you think you know someone who could benefit from this pageant, please give us a call. I asked the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Program to help me research our history, and the last time any of us sent a representative was Silver Bay in 1970.
This program is not only good for the community it will be great for the girls.
I will be in Silver Bay and Beaver Bay for Bay Days and Grand Marais for the Fisherman’s Picnic. I will have more information for you there. If you can’t make it please call us. We are anxious to hear from you.
