The Silver Bay 16U girls fastpitch softball team took second place at the Lake Superior Classic tournament in Duluth. They fell 4-3 to Becker/Big Lake in the final.

The Silver Bay 16U girls fastpitch softball team took second place at the Lake Superior Classic tournament in Duluth. They fell 4-3 to Becker/Big Lake in the final.

Deven VanHouse won his second feature in less than two weeks at the Midwest Modifieds at Superior Speedway. He is third in the point standings at Superior and fourth at Proctor.

Hockey Day in Minnesota is scheduled for Feb. 12. The high school games will be at Moorhead featuring Wayzata vs. Roseau and Hill-Murray vs. Moorhead. They will be followed on Fox Sports North by Gophers and Wild games.

Minnesota Hockey, with the blessing of USA Hockey, will run a pilot program this season whereby youth hockey penalties will be 1:30 rather then two minutes if the games have 15 minute periods or less. USA Hockey will cease running national tournaments for those age 12 and under starting with the 2012-13 season. They felt running national tournaments for that age level was not great for youth development.

The Silver Bay junior baseball team will play a team from Japan Thursday at 1p.m. This will be followed by a game between Japan and Eastern Duluth. This a part of the Sister Cities program. The best 18-and-under baseball players in the world will play in Thunder Bay July 23-Aug. 1 for the IBAF World Championship.
