Plans are coming along nicely for the 2010 Lake County Fair Aug. 12-15.
Gopher State Expositions will run the midway again this year. They are looking forward to coming back to Two Harbors and we are hoping that Two Harbors is looking forward to them coming back also.
Great Lakes Timber Show will also be here, they will be giving tree topping demonstrations, which might be a first for the fair.
We have also hired robotic puppets that will wandering the grounds. They are very out of the ordinary.
Entertainment on the Commercial Building stage will be the Sofa Kings on Saturday night and DJ Jason Allen on Friday night. We’re still working on Thursday and Sunday but we are sure it will be entertaining for all. Senior Day has been moved to Thursday. There will be a luncheon at noon in the Commercial Building with entertainment and an award ceremony to follow.
Nominations are now open for the “Outstanding Senior Volunteer” in the county.
The deadline is July 23. Anyone with a senior in mind should contact Bunny Thomson at 830-0600. The award recognizes the role of volunteers in communities and especially in programs and services for seniors. The 2009 winners were Lavonne Legarde and Gerald Cotton. Lake County representatives vie for state honors at the State Fair later in August.
Kid’s Day is Friday, with a coloring contest and cookie contest registration at noon and judging at 2 p.m. Games and drawings will begin at 6.
Saturday is the 4-H Horse Show. A mechanical bull will be up and running and the 22nd annual pie contest will take place.
On Sunday there will be a Renegade Rider Horse Show and lots of other events.
There is plenty still in the works and we are really hoping that Lake County residents and people in the surrounding area come and take part in the contests and fun.
There are entry wristbands for sale at $12 for adults and teens for all four days of the fair. It’s $10 for children age 6-12. Early birds get the lower admission price.
The 2010 Premium Book will be in stores and banks next week and is on the website www.thelakecountyfair.com.
That is it for now. We will let you know of any changes in the coming weeks. See you at the fair.
