Wood carving artist John Gage and sawyer Roy Lampela are cutting up the Honking Tree this month at Lampela’s rural St. Louis County home. Gage will take boards from the tree and build a replica of the Two Harbors Light Station. There still is no word on where the replica will be placed in Two Harbors. Mike Creger

Roy Lampela milled boards out of the Honking Tree trunk Friday in a field behind his home on Laine Road in St. Louis County.

The boards will eventually become a replica of the lighthouse on Lighthouse Point in Two Harbors.

Lampela found another interesting turn in the history of the tree as he sawed away: a bullet embedded in the trunk.

Wood carving artist John Gage and Lampela are cutting up the Honking Tree this month.

Gage will take boards from the tree and build a replica of the Two Harbors Light Station.

There still is no word on where the replica will be placed in Two Harbors.
