Flood advisory posted for St. Louis County
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for southeastern St. Louis County and a flood watch for all of Lake and Cook counties, especially North Shore streams.By: News Tribune staff, Duluth News Tribune
Repeated waves of heavy downpours overnight on top of already saturated ground has swollen creeks and rivers to the brim and spurring the potential for minor flooding in low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for southeastern St. Louis County and a flood watch for all of Lake and Cook counties, especially North Shore streams.
Rivers in danger of spilling their banks in some places include the Knife, Little Cloquet, Cloquet, French, Lester, Schmidt Creek, Big Sucker, McCarthy Creek, Little Knife and Talmadge rivers.
The Duluth International Airport has received more than one inch of rain today on top of 1.5 inches over the past five days, and more rain is expected throughout today.
Rain is expected to gradually diminish by Thursday with some sun Friday and a gradual warming trend into the 70s by next week.
Rainfall totals over the past 36 hours include 2.17 inches in Proctor, 2.17 inches in Lincoln Park, 1.98 inches in Scanlon, 1.97 inches in Rice Lake Township, 1.93 inches in Pike Lake, 1.82 inches in Hermantown and 1.32 inches in Duluth’s Endion neighborhood.
