Deniboba shatters half marathon mark by 2 minutes

Derese Deniboba, 28, of Ethiopia outkicked countryman Tesfaye Alemayehu down the stretch to win the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in a course-record 1 hour, 2 minutes, 19 seconds this morning.

Deniboba, who resides in New York City, won a three-man contest that included Fernando Cabada of Boulder, Colo. Deniboba was third a year ago.

The previous course record of 1:04:19 was set by Ryan Meissen in 2002.

Katie McGregor of Minneapolis won the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon women’s race in 1:13:18.
