Dick Fredrickson of Silver Bay died April 7, 2010.
He was born in Cass Lake Nov. 28, 1933, to Logan and Carrie Fredrickson. After graduating from Cass Lake High School in 1952, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in both Japan and Korea.
He was employed briefly by Mn DOT and left in 1956 to go to Reserve Min- ing Company in Silver Bay. He worked for Reserve 30 years, after which he was employed by LTV, Cyprus, and Northshore Mining until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a volunteer firefighter in Silver Bay for 23 years, many of which he was chief. He also served in several City of Silver Bay commis- sions.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
He is survived by wife of 53 years, Gale; sons Tom (Mary Nilles-Fredrickson), John (Shelley), and Joe (Paula) of Silver Bay; daugh- ters Monica (Jerry Pybas) of Duluth, Anita (Brad Hove) of St. Paul, and Mary (Ken Lundgren) of Shafer; 12 grandchildren; three bonus grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters Ardith Leidenfrost of Hill City, and Delores Gesling of Pocatello, Idaho.
He had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunt- ing, trapping, and picking blueberries. He knew every road on the North Shore. He also loved his cabin in the woods on the Manitou River.
Reception and vigil prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by visita- tion until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
