Master gardeners to present programs

Master Gardeners in Lake County will present a four-part seminar beginning in April that will help participants meet the challenges of gardening in Lake County.

Master Gardeners in Lake County will present a four-part seminar beginning in April that will help participants meet the challenges of gardening in Lake County. Classes will be held at the Two Harbors High School and two of the four will be repeated at the school in Silver Bay.

The first class on April 13 in Two Harbors is “Seed Starting”. Learn how to select varieties for climate hardiness. Both vegetables and annual flowers will be covered.

You will plant several seeds during the class. All materials will be supplied, but you may wish to bring garden gloves. Register by April 5.

Garden Design is the April 20 topic in Two Harbors. It will repeat May 13 in Silver Bay.

Learn about the important site factors that will affect your gardens and landscaping. Photos will include past Mystery Garden Tours and public garden sites. Registration is requested.

A class on trees will take place April 27 in Two Harbors and May 11 in Silver Bay. Find out about selection, planting, pruning, management, and pest control. Dress for the weather to take an outside walking tour on school grounds. Registration requested.

The final class of the series is “Container Planting” on May 4 in Two Harbors. Learn about appropriate soil amendments, flower and pot choices, and maintaining plants. Participants need to bring garden gloves and one 8- to 10-inch wide pot to class. All other materials will be supplied. Register by April 23.

All classes run 6- 8 pm. with a registration fee for each.

Each class is independent of the others, so register for one or more. Call before the deadline dates through Community Education at 834-8201 ext.8230 (Two Harbors) or 226-4437 ext. 8137 (Silver Bay).
