The News-Chronicle contacted U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar’s Washington office last week to ask about his trip to Finland this weekend. The office returned this chilling story.
“Earlier this week Mr. Oberstar was confronted in the hall of the Rayburn House Office building by a number of lobbyists who were seeking funding for what they called a ‘green plant removal system.’ This new green technology is capable of eliminating plant material at a phenomenal rate. Their hope was that Mr. Oberstar could help support their green technology by helping them get a grant from the Department of Agriculture. They were hoping they could meet with Jim on March 13.
“Something about this group didn’t look right. They were all dressed in green and the shortest member of the group kept whispering, ‘let’s go to the salad bar.’
“Then it hit Jim. He was looking at the grasshopper lobby. ‘Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene täältä hiiteen,’ Jim said as he turned on his heel and walked to the House floor to vote.
“Turns out, the lobbyist group is called PTOG (Pee Tog), People for the Ethical Treatment of Grasshoppers.”
Needless to say, he won’t be at any meeting Saturday. He’ll be in Finland for the festival.
