Student musicians to compete

Two Harbors and Silver Bay high school students will compete in the Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest regional contest Friday.

Two Harbors and Silver Bay high school students will compete in the Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest regional contest Friday.

The contest, which tests knowledge of classical music, begins at 1 p.m. at Marshall School in Duluth. There are 10 regions in the state and nearly 170 teams representing 68 schools, home schools and private music studios.

There are three teams from Two Harbors High School led by choir director Nancy MacGibbon. Students competing are: Jessamine Julian, Elizabeth Loch, Tara Evert Mize, Ashley Graton, Jenelle Waldriff, Emily Schwitters, Josh Deming, Donald Bredow and Meaghan Anderson.

Silver Bay students are: Sonja Smerud, Maggie Skalsky, Ryan Blood, Carrie Smedstad, Faith Frahm, Kari Smerud and Tzaddik Oltman. They are coached by David Haaversen.
