• Snowmobile Catches Fire

A snowmobiler was slightly injured Tuesday when his sled’s engine apparently “blew up,” witnesses said on the north edge of Two Harbors where a trail meets Cardinal Road. Mike Creger
• Aftermath

The machine spewed fuel onto the driver and then a fire started. A fellow rider said it was difficult to douse the flames on the driver and he suffered minor burns. He was treated at Lake View Memorial Hospital. Two Harbors firefighters arrived just before 1 p.m. to douse the snowmobile that was burning in the middle of the road. Mike Creger

- 3:29 a.m. Deputy advised that a vehicle took out the signs at the corner of Highway 2 and Forest Highway 11.

- 4:37 Deputy takes report of vehicle rollover on Forest Highway 11 near Beaver River Road. No injuries.

- 10:00 Deputies, State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Two Harbors fire and rescue respond to three-vehicle accident on Highway 61 near Superior Shores. Four persons transported to Lake View Memorial Hospital.

- 11:03 Deputy assists State Patrol with vehicle rollover on Highway 61 at Alseth Road.

- 2:55 p.m. Deputy attempts to stop vehicle on Fernberg Road. Makes stop in Ely. Warning for stop sign and window violations.

- 3:12 Ambulance requested at Subway for man who slipped on ice in the area and hit his head. Two Harbors ambulance responds and transports one to Lake View.

- 5:15 Two Harbors fire responds to report of chimney fire at rural residence.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

- 1:05 a.m. Deputy, Two Harbors fire respond to report of carbon monoxide alarm at rural residence.

- 3:53 Deputy, police respond to report of suspicious vehicle at Blackwoods Grill and Bar in Two Harbors.

- 11:30 Deputy transports inmate to St. Cloud.

- 11:49 Deputy assists motorist with flat tire on Highway 61 at Larsmont Road.

- 5:36 p.m. Deputy gives ride to individuals from Two Harbors Campground to Holiday East gas station.

- 7:28 Deputy traffic stop on Highway 61 near Split Rock Lighthouse. Warning for speed.

- 7:44 Deputy traffic stop on Highway 61 near Blueberry Hill Road. Warning for speed.

- 9:00 Deputy assists State Patrol with traffic stop on Highway 61 at Hawk Hill Road. One brought to Lake County Jail on warrant.

- 10:47 Silver Bay fire and rescue respond to vehicle accident on Highway 61 near Northshore Mining. One transported to Lake View.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

- 12:18 p.m. Deputy takes report of damaged mailbox at rural Two Harbors residence.

- 2:49 Deputy responds to report of vehicle blocking driveway on Snowbank Road.

- 4:55 Deputy assists St. Louis County and Ely police with report of shots fired at bar. Suspect apprehended.

- 9:12 Deputy responds to report of vehicle hitting propane tank near residence in Ely area. Gas company called.

Thursday, Jan. 14

- 6:26 a.m. Deputy, police attempt to locate reported drunk driver on Highway 61 near Silver Cliff Tunnel.

- 9:32 Deputy checks on welfare of child at Beaver Bay Apartments.

- 10:04 Deputy traffic stop on Highway 61 at Beaver Bay Apartments. Citation issued for driving after revocation.

- 7:04 Deputy stops suspicious vehicle at Silver Bay Marina. Warning for being on private property.

Friday, Jan. 15

- 5:54 p.m. Deputy traffic stop on Kawishiwi Trail at Thirteen Corners. Warning for stop sign violation and expired registration.

- 6:42 Deputy traffic stop on Highway 61 at Mt. Rockwood Road. Warning for no trailer lights.

- 8:20 Deputy assists St. Louis County with car-deer accident on the Echo Trail.

- 8:53 Deputy checks on suspicious vehicle seen in area of recent burglaries in Finland area.

- 11:06 Deputy traffic stop on Highway 61 at Highway 1. Warning for speed and no proof of insurance.
