“I’m baaack” said Steven Eull, a Special Olympics athlete at the Northland 300 meeting in October where snowmobiling participants learned about and registered for the event, a three-day, 300-mile benefit ride from Two Harbors to Ely beginning Thursday.
Last year’s ride was historic as Eull rode on the back of coach Jason Reinsch’s sled for the full ride, a first for a Special Olympics athlete. The pair is back to do it again this year.
The Northland 300 invites the public to observe an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. Thursday at Superior Shores Lodge. Eull, Reinsch and Lake County athletes will help light the “Flame of Hope” for the first time in 2010.
Special Olympics Minnesota provides year round sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities that contribute to life-long physical fitness, personal growth and achievements. For information, visit www.northland 300.org.
