Letter to the editor: Plow drivers applauded
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our “road warriors” who work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our “road warriors” who work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. On the most celebrated holiday of the year, Christmas, these employees worked day and night to keep our roads passable.
They got up at 1 a.m. or left their homes at 1 p.m. to keep our highways plowed and as safe as possible. They missed opening presents with their families or warm dinners planned for days.
They crawled out of bed while the wind whistled and the snow swirled outside. They packed cold lunches that may or may not be eaten in their trucks. As they crept into bedrooms to say good bye and whisper “Merry Christmas,” we told them to be safe and hurry home.
They drove to work in blinding snow and on slippery roads to climb into cold trucks that rumble to life as they fill them with sand and salt to battle the neverending affects of Mother Nature.
We see them on the road doing what is expected of them. Sometimes we take for granted the time and effort it takes to keep us rolling on the highways, and, in this time of thankfulness, I thank you.
I would like to give a special thanks to the “Wildcats of Illgen City,” the MnDOT crew that I know. Thanks Tom, Tim, Jerry and Han for giving up a lot of your Christmas to allow us to go “over the river and through the woods” on this busy weekend.
