Janice D. Barry Hanson, 82, Two Harbors, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at St Mary’s Hospice with her loving family at her side.
Janice D. Barry Hanson, 82, Two Harbors, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at St Mary’s Hospice with her loving family at her side.
She was born March 8, 1927, to Alex and Ula “Velma” (McAninch) Welcome in Bain and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1945.
Jan married Marvin “Whitey” Pratt in October 1945 and they were married almost 20 years. They had four children: Carree (Bill) Allison of Minneapolis, Kansas, Marvin Len (Victoria) Pratt and Karla (Paul) Sundberg of Two Harbors, and Dan (Pat) Pratt of Oneida, Ken.
In 1975 she married Robert L. Barry of McGregor and her family grew to include three step-children: Allan Barry of Schroeder, Robert Timm Barry of McGregor, and Dawn (Danny) Shilts of Brook Park. During her 21 years of marriage to Bob, Jan worked at Savanna Portage and Cascade River State Parks and retired from Tettagouche River State Park in 1989.
While living at Sunrise on Superior in Two Harbors, Jan met Roy F. Hanson. They were married in October 2005, and her family grew again with the addition of four step-children: Cheryl (Adrian) Hanson of Hayward, Wis., Roy Thomas (Joette) Hanson, Greg (Robin) Hanson, and Tabor (Becky) Hanson all of Two Harbors. Roy and Jan had two wonderful years together.
Jan was a member of First Baptist Church of Two Harbors, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, but was most proud of membership in the family of God. She was a faithful Christian woman and a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Jan is also survived by a sister, Eldred (Bernie) Urban of Big Lake, a daughter-in-law, Victoria Pratt of Salina, Kan.; 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, sisters Zella Taylor and Alberta Hatfield; brothers Donald and Dallas Welcome; a son Marvin “Len” Pratt and daughters-in-law Lori Pratt and Lindy Barry.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. tonight at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Two Harbors.
Burial will be in Waukenabo Cemetery in Palisade.
