Edward Anthony Zupancich, 70, of Silver Bay, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth after a 22 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Ely July 23, 1939, to Edward and Molly (Merhar) Zupancich.
Edward graduated from school in Ely in 1957. On Aug. 20, 1960, he married Judith Marie Pucel. They resided in Ely until 1964 and then made their home for 45 years in Silver Bay. Edward was owner/meat manager with Zupancich Brothers, Inc. in Silver Bay until his retirement in 2004.
Ed was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay, Knights of Columbus, Silver Bay Golf Club and Ely Friday Night Couples League. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. Ed’s other interests included gardening, picking blueberries, woodworking, and cutting many a cord of firewood. His wood shed and garden were the envy of many. Edward was especially fond of spending time at the family cabin on Farm Lake in Ely.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jo-seph and Molly Zupancich.
Edward is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Judy; daughter, Maureen (Kevin Kemp) Zupancich of Duluth; sons, Edward John (Mary) Zupancich of Duluth, Thomas (Teri) Zupancich of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Edward Thomas, Kristen Zupancich, Meghan and Molli Zupancich; four siblings Theresa Jamnick of Ely, Bernard (Sandra) Zupancich of Silver Bay, Paul (Pat) Zupancich of Ely, Robert (Deb) Zupancich of Ely; sister-in-law, Janie Gerzin; brother-in-law, Richard (Carol) Pucel; “additional” family members Troy (Mandy) Hawkshead of Knoxville, Iowa, Ellie, Anna, Ashley and Luke Hawkshead, Christopher Lynch, Katie Cory, James Cone; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
