“After nine years I have decided to retire,” Two Harbors volleyball coach Dory Pohl said this week. “I truly feel blessed to have been a part of the Two Harbors community and leave with many fond memories of the girls I have coached, parents I have met and the fans that have cheered us on. (Two Harbors) athletic staff are top-notch and a pleasure to work with.”
The last game of her coaching career ended up being a 3-0 loss to Hibbing in the first round of the section playoffs last week. The team ended the season with a record of 6-17.
Pohl won’t be the only one leaving the program after this season. Caitlin Anderson, Kaitlin Slette, Abby Gilbertson, Abby Ray, Ashley Gilbert, Ashley Swenson and Elizabeth Loch will all be graduating this year.
“Their contributions are appreciated and they will be missed,” Pohl said.
Ray led the team in kills (136) and hitting percentage (.362) while Sasha Fjeran was the leader on the team in set-assists (220) and serving percentage (98). Anderson had the team’s next highest serving percentage at 96.5 percent. Kaley Peterson led the team with blocks at 40 and Sarah Stark had the most digs with 309.
Ray will represent the Agates at the Polar League All Star Game at 5 p.m., Nov. 16 in Barnum.
