The Shepherd of the Lake Oktoberfest dinner will be held from is 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
SUNDAY Oct. 18
The Widows and Widowers Dinner,1 p.m. at Dixie Bar and Grill.
Monthly worship service of the Bassett Congregational Church of Brimson is scheduled for 3 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow. Everyone is welcome.
MONDAY October 19
“Toddler Time” at the Two Harbors Public Library at 11:15. For children ages 1 to 3. Kids Plus kids will be our storytellers. The theme is Halloween and fall. There will also be poems, a craft, and coloring sheets. Toddler Time takes place 11:15 to 11:45 on the third Monday of each month. Call the library at 834-3148 if you have any questions.
TUESDAY Oct. 20
Author/illustrator Kelley Dupre will visit Two Harbors Public Library a featured author. She will meet with elementary students during the day and will also have an evening community presentation at the Two Harbors Public Library at 6:30 p.m.
The 7th Annual Duluth Senior Expo will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. The expo, an annual gathering of 4,000 attendees and exhibitors, will feature exhibitors, live entertainment, keynote speakers, seminars, workshops and more. This year, Humana will be providing all seniors with free pedometers as part of the Steps for Senior’s program. Cost to attend the expo is $6.
WEDNESDAY Oct. 21
La Leche League, a mother to mother support group for nursing mothers will meet at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church (Coppertop) in Duluth. This month’s topic will be “Realistic Expectations: There’s a New Baby in your Family.” Babies and children welcome. Lending library available. THURSDAY Oct. 22
The Friends of the Library will meet in the library meeting room at 6:30 p.m.
If bills are piling up and you are wondering what is out there to help you through these tough times, come to the first “Lake County Community Connect” at the Reunion Hall in Silver Bay from 1 to 6 p.m. Families and individuals can sign up for services from over 24 service providers which include energy assistance, social security benefits, housing assistance, transportation assistance, food support, vet services and a whole lot more. There will also be free services that day like flu shots, vouchers for free dental cleanings, children’s school items, free health screenings just to name a few. There will be even be free items that meet immediate needs like households items, groceries, gas cards, winter clothing and a free meal while supplies last.
The North Shore Rotary Club sponsors the Two Harbors Area Interact Club each Tuesday morning. The club has approximately 30 members and meets at 7:15 a.m. each Tuesday at Black Woods Restaurant. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill.
Harbor Mates is a social club for people age 50 or older that offers a variety of theater and travel opportunities. Call Ann Bradley at The Lake Bank for upcoming events, 834-2111.
The North Shore Photo Club in Two Harbors is exhibiting photographic artwork at the Vanilla Bean. The exhibit will run through Oct. 25. The theme for this exhibit is “Macro Photography,” and will include works from at least five members of the club. The club meets on the first Thursday of each month in the basement of the Emanuel Lutheran Church.
Caregiver Sharing Group meets the second Wednesday of every month, 1-2:30 p.m. at the United Protestant Church, Silver Bay. This group is run through Northshore Area Partners, a nonprofit living at home/block program working with elders to keep them in their homes.
Harbor Center, 111 Waterfront Drive, Two Harbors is an adult drop-in center providing coffee and activities plus. Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 12:30-4:30 p.m. with a monthly meeting on the third Monday at 1 p.m.
Family Caregiver Sharing Group meets every second Thursday from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. at Lake View Memorial Hospital in the lower level meeting room. Call Linda Kinnunen at Community Partners, 834-8024.
